Are you an introvert looking for structured ways to meet people and step outside your comfort zone? Are you the extrovert who wants a little more structure?
I personally am a blend of the two. I'm an extrovert once I've met someone a few times, but an introvert in situations where I know very few of the people. The pandemic and working remotely have only exacerbated this in me; I've truly forgotten how to make small talk with strangers.
In the past, I'd step out of my comfort zone by joining social clubs. I focused on my speaking ability through Toastmasters International. I forced myself to be physically active by joining a running club. What I know from these experiences is I've found multiple ways to grow both personally and professionally.
Moving to a new city this past year proved just as challenging. I needed a way to make a positive impact on my community as well as meet others. In my search I found the Junior League of Greenville (JLG). JLG will tell you it's not just a social club but a powerful force for change. The group empowers women to advance their careers and personal growth through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.
As a club member, you can participate in various projects and initiatives that help your community overcome challenges and solve big problems. You will work with partner organizations that provide essential services and support to people in need in your local community.
By volunteering you'll gain hands-on experience that can boost your resume and career prospects. You will learn how to plan, execute, and evaluate programs, manage budgets and resources, communicate effectively and persuasively, work in teams and lead others, and solve problems creatively and strategically.
These skills are transferable and help you gain valuable experience and just might be what you need if you're looking for a career pivot.
You're joining a network of people from diverse backgrounds, professions, and life stages. You'll interact with people who share your passion and vision for making the community a better place and who can offer you support, guidance, and inspiration.
You'll have a robust social calendar for the year. These events and activities help you connect with other members, learn new skills, and have fun. By expanding your network and building meaningful relationships, you'll enrich your personal life, but also open up new opportunities for your career. You may just find that mentor you've been seeking or a wonderful friend who is your lifelong travel buddy.
As a member of a social club, you will help not only others but also yourself. You'll grow as a person. You'll challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone. You'll have opportunities to take on new roles and responsibilities, to learn new things, and to overcome obstacles.
You'll receive feedback, recognition, and encouragement from your fellow members, in a safe and friendly environment. You'll develop a sense of confidence and fulfillment knowing that you are making a positive impact in the world.
Don’t miss the opportunity to join a dynamic and diverse group of people making a difference in your community. Join a social club today and see how you grow. I've personally grown both professionally and personally from the clubs I've been in. I've made amazing friends and gained the skills and confidence to open my own business.
